Remembering Whitney Houston & Black History Month
The Rescued Nation Crew: Shawn A+ Ward, Shemeka The Model Greene, PK Hernandes Union, and board operator Arlington A-Train Lane discuss the cultural significance of the passing of Whitney Houston. Though at times we found much humor in the surrounding attitudes about Ms. Houston....RN decided to keep it 100 by honoring her life and accomplishments; as well as discussing her flaws and the lessons that we can learn from them.
The death of Whitney Houston overshadowed the planned topic of Black History month or the lack thereof that we wanted to discuss. However our guest was good enough to point out the major contributions of African American inventors and pioneers.
African Americans have a rich and deep American History that should never be forgotten; to the marvelous talents of Whitney and Micheal...to the prolific words of Martin & Malcolm on social equality. Films like "Roots" and St. Louis' own gospel documentary "Say Amen Somebody" unfortunately are not shown to the current generation so its place in their history is lost on them.
That's why it's up to us to keep it 100 about our history...because black history truly is American history!
